Bank of Maharashtra, petitioner herein, was the opposite party before the District Forum. Respondent/complainant’s case is that a cheque of Rs.20,000/- deposited by him in the petitioner bank was not credited to his account and was lost in transit. Thus, being aggrieved, he filed complaint before the District Forum claiming Rs.30,000/- as compensation including interest amount of Rs.20,000/-. District Forum allowed the complaint and directed the petitioner to pay Rs.25,000/- to the respondent. Petitioner, being aggrieved, filed an appeal before the State Commission, which has been dismissed by the impugned order. In our considered view, Rs.25,000/- awarded by way of compensation for non-crediting the cheque of Rs.20,000/- only is on the higher side. Accordingly, we reduce the amount of compensation to Rs.10,000/-. Revision Petition stands disposed of in above terms. |
